Poppa Dale

It was Wednesday morning when I got the news. I was getting ready for work and my cell phone rang. I knew. I just knew.

My grandfather, Dale Elderidge Files, was diagnosed with bone cancer earlier this year. And he passed away after a seemingly short and painful battle. He had more life in his pinky-finger than most people have in their entire body. Fondly known as "Poppa Dale" by his children and grandchildren, he was the kindest person you will ever meet, a fiercely loyal friend, a loving husband, a caring father and THE BEST grandfather in the world.

I always knew he was wonderful, but it wasn't until I started my job at East Coast Metal Distributors, until I truly understood how many people felt the exact same way about him. Poppa Dale founded East Coast in 1954, treating each and every employee like a member of his family. He expected hard work out of you, but would give you love and support ten-fold. His kindness and influence is deeply apparent in the overwhelming support my family has received over the past few months, weeks and days leading up to his death and the days after. I cannot thank you all enough - there just are not words.

My heart is so heavy, though I take comfort knowing that he doesn't suffer anymore.

I love you, Poppa Dale, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck... :)

xoxo,
Kat
